My journey with seed cycling began at the end of 2023 when I attended one of Rochelle’s cyclical living events focused on skin and cycles. At the time, I had been struggling with hormonal acne and wanted to learn more about how supporting my cycle could improve my skin.

I remember leaving feeling so enlightened. Learning about the different phases of the menstrual cycle, the hormones involved at each stage, and how nutrition and lifestyle can influence both our cycles and skin honestly felt mind blowing to me at the time. It sparked something in me that eventually led me to where I am now, studying a Bachelor of Natural Medicine at the South Pacific College of Natural Medicine, to become a naturopath with a special interest in women’s health, hormones and skin.

I started seed cycling shortly after that event and have continued on and off ever since, with consistency being my biggest struggle! I’ve definitely fallen off the seed cycling bandwagon more than once, but in doing so, this has shown me how much of a difference it was making. When I’m consistent with seed cycling, my skin significantly improves and becomes much clearer. Whenever I fall off the bandwagon, I notice hormonal acne beginning to creep back in during my luteal phase. This has been the most obvious and noticeable shift for me personally.

Alongside seed cycling, I have also worked with naturopaths and spent the past couple of years addressing underlying hormone imbalances, stress, and gut health. I’m definitely still learning and my journey is ongoing, but seed cycling has become one of the foundational tools that supports me towards my health goals.

As I said, my biggest challenge has been consistency. I’m a huge meal prepper and every Sunday I prepare my meals for the week ahead. I realised that if I wanted to stay consistent with seed cycling, I needed to approach it the same way. I needed something easy to prepare in advance that I could simply grab and go during a busy week. That’s why I created this slice recipe!

Controversial, but I absolutely love the choc-orange flavour combination. One of my favourite things about this recipe is how easy it is to change the flavours depending on what you feel like. Instead of orange, I’ve made versions with dried berries, peanut butter, or added cinnamon, plus I’m sure there are many more combinations you could try. For me, this slice has become a simple and realistic way to stay consistent with seed cycling, and I hope you give it a try and enjoy!

While I’m slowly starting to share more of my journey and what I’m learning online, you can find me at @hermonalhealth_. I’ve also recently launched a virtual assistant business supporting naturopaths and holistic health practitioners, which you can find at @kylarenee.va.
